In exercise of the powers conferred by the provision in Article 343 (2) of the constitution, orders were issued for the use of Hindi language in addition to the English language for specific purposes of the union.

10/18/1925	Narayandatt Tiwar, former Central minister and Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, was born.
8/9/1942	Mahatma Gandhi after announcing 'do or die' slogan alongwith 'Quit India Movement' at Bombay was arrested along with 50 others. Gandhiji was interned in Aga Khan Palace at Poona. This Do or Die slogan deep rooted in Indian hearts and resulted in nationwide Quit India Movment. This day is commemorated as ""Kranti Day"". Govind Vallabh Pant was send to Ahmednagar Jail, while Sarojini Naidu and many other leaders were also arrested.
5/20/1965	Under the leadership of Commander M. S. Kohli, Indian Trackers concurred Mount Everest. Captain A. S. Chima and Sherpa Nawang Gombu were the first to reach the summit.
5/18/1974	Jayaprakash Narayan led a procession against economic conditions in Patna. There was lathi charged and he issued a call for total revolution. He also started the 'Citizens for Democracy' movement.
9/6/1972	Allauddin Khan, famous Sarod player, passed away.
1/20/1993	Karnataka ministry expanded to include 27 more members; S.M. Krishna made Dy. CM.
7/5/1917	'Hindumashinary Society' was established by Gajanan Bhaskar Vaidya.
5/3/1945	Hurricane-equipped squadrons played a major role in the Arakan offensive which began in December 1944, disrupting the enemy's lines of communication and constantly harrying the Japanese forces until victory was achieved with the re-occupation of Rangoon.
8/4/2000	Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother and the last member of the British royal family to bear the title ''Empress of India'', celebrated her 100th birthday.
