11/18/1961The Navy went into action under the command of Rear Admiral BS Soman, then Flag Officer Commanding, Indian Fleet. The ships conducted their mission in three geographical areas for liberating Goa .
2/19/1812Congregational missionaries Adoniram Judson, 23, and his wife Ann, 22, first sailed from New England to Calcutta. (Judson eventually concentrated his labors in Burma).
10/19/1990The Government of India under an ordinance puts forward a three-point formula for Ayodhya issue: (i) to acquire the land (ii) other land may be given for building temple except the disputed one (iii) the issue may referred to Supreme Court for speedy solution.

3/31/1964Tram-way service ended in Mumbai (Bombay). This last electric tram left Bori Bunder (CST) for Dadar at 10 p.m., crowds lined the route all the way at that late hour to bid farewell to the common man's transport medium.
12/3/1971During the ensuing melee, three of the Sabres were shot down while all Gnats returning to base were unscathed. The first blood of a new Indo-Pakistan air war had been drawn. Other encounters were to follow over the next 10 days within both Indian and Pakistani airspace, before a full-scale war began.
9/19/1911Boyi Bhimanna, great Hindi writer, poet and prolific author, was born at Mamidikuduru in AP.
4/1/1933Indian Air Force was established at Drigh Road in Karachi (now in Pakistan). Subroto Mukherjee and four other officers were inducted as pilots when the first Indian Air Force Squadron was formed. The first aircraft flight joined the Indian Air Force, at that time it possessed a strength of six RAF-trained officers and 19 Havai Sepoys (literally, air soldiers); its aircraft inventory comprised four Westland Wapiti II. A army co-operation biplaned at Drigh Road as the ""A"" Flight nucleus of the planned No.1 (Army Co-operation) Squadron.
6/17/1756Nawab Sira-ud-Daulah attacked on Calcutta with 50,000 soldiers and captured it on June 21.
