Historical Event on 3/20/1959

For the first time, officials of the Indian government confirmed reports of widespread resistance to the Chinese occupying forces in Tibet. Open warfare erupted in the capital city of Lhasa.

4/16/1853The first Railway Train on Indian sub-continent ran over a streach of 21 miles i.e. 35 kms from Bombay to Thane. In the inauguration ceremony, 14 railway carriages carrying about 400 guests left Bori Bunder (presently C.S.T.) at 3.30 pm, amidst the loud applause of a vast multitude and to the salute of 21 guns.
3/6/1928Nilkanth Ramanbhai Mahipatrao, famous Gujrati litterateur, critic, dramatist and social reformer, died.
1/10/1897Wildemar Modecai Haffkine, famous scientist, innoculated himself with vaccine against Plague publicly to demonstrate the harmlessness of the product in Bombay. The method of preparation of this vaccine has remained the same till now for more then hundred years.

2/21/1894Dr. Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar, famous scientist, was born at Bhera, Punjab.
8/10/1905Sundarji Gokuldas Betard, modern Gujrathi poet, was born.
8/7/1991India successfully launches Prithvi-III, surface-to-air missile from Sriharikota.
2/17/1993Rani Gaidinliu, freedom fighter, social reformer and political leader, died at her native village in Manipur. The British army made a surprise attack on her position and captured her. On 17th October, 1932, Pandit Nehru once wrote ""A day will come when India will remember her and cherishe her"".
2/25/1903Judge Kailas Nath Wanchoo, chief Justice of Supreme Court of India, was born.
7/14/1963Swami Shivanand Saraswati, religious leader, passed away.
